Factors to Consider When Choosing a New AC

If you need to upgrade your older air conditioner, you have a variety of different options. ACs have come a long way in the last couple of decades. Units are now highly energy efficient with a variety of ways to upgrade and boost energy efficiency.

Just give our team a call for an AC install in Oviedo and we can get you on the way to having a brand new cooling unit. You can also keep reading to learn about your different AC options and why it may be better to invest in a unit that offers greater energy efficiency rather than selecting a more basic model.

Prioritize Energy Efficiency

Perhaps the top factor to consider when selecting a new air conditioner is the SEER2 rating that gauges overall energy efficiency. The minimum accepted SEER2 rating for an air conditioner being installed here in Florida is 14.3.

However, you should really consider this the bare minimum of efficiency. This rating ensures that homeowners get a moderately efficient air conditioner instead of potentially installing a unit that is costly to operate and bad for the environment.

We encourage you to invest in a new air conditioner that has an even higher SEER2 rating than this minimum accepted standard. Investing in efficiency upfront is the best way to ensure that your home stays cool without breaking the bank on monthly energy costs. Plus, you can know that you are investing in a unit that is better for the environment.

Choose the Correct Sizing

Another important factor to consider is the overall sizing of an air conditioner. AC sizing is based on the climate zones and the square footage of your home. Here in Florida, we need air conditioners with more cooling power because we use our units for a larger portion of the year.

If your air conditioner is too small for your home, it will end up working harder and never living up to your cooling expectations. Your energy bills may be higher and the unit will not last as long because it gets overworked.

Unfortunately, the same is true of the air conditioners that are too large for your home. They will cool down the indoor air temperature too fast, and as a result will never complete a full cooling cycle. Without completing a cooling cycle, heat and humidity will be trapped inside of your home instead of releasing outside. This will lead to inconsistent results and a unit that turns on and off frequently.
