3 Quiet Signs that Your AC Needs Repairs

Sometimes air conditioning problems are more obvious. They are accompanied by loud sounds or major malfunctions. But not all air conditioning problems are obvious. Others are quiet, although they can be equally serious. It’s important to know the quieter signs of AC problems so that you can address those repair needs before they worsen.

You can give our team a call anytime you think you need AC repair in Sanford. You can even just call to ask questions about the signs that you’re noticing to find out whether or not they point to potential problems. In the meantime, you can also keep reading to learn more about three quiet indicators that your air conditioner may be having problems operating the way it is supposed to.

Poor Airflow

Poor airflow can be a problem in a couple of different ways. First, your air conditioner could have a lack of cooling. The airflow may be strong coming out of the vents, but isn’t a low enough temperature to cool your home down.

Alternately, the air coming out of vents may be cool enough, but airflow is not strong because of a blockage or other issue with the ductwork. Either way, you want to get the problem addressed. Otherwise, your thermostat will continue signaling for your AC to stay on longer in an attempt to cool your home despite the airflow issue.

High Energy Bills

Your energy bills may creep up slowly over time without you realizing it. It is completely normal for energy costs to fluctuate from month to month and season to season. But if you see a steady increase that never trends back down, that’s a red flag of something in your home struggling with energy efficiency.

As one of the larger appliances in your home, an AC unit could very well be to blame. If there’s a small problem going wrong inside of your AC, the problem could worsen gradually until it is very noticeable. It’s also possible that something major goes wrong inside of your air conditioner, and your energy costs go up all at one time.

Either of these problems is concerning and warrants an AC checkup just to be on the safe side. Best case scenario, nothing is wrong with your unit and you have the peace of mind that everything is OK. Worst case scenario something is wrong, and our team can fix it and help you get back some of that energy efficiency.

Bad Smells

Your air conditioner should never produce any bad smells. Air coming from your air conditioner should be neutral and have no odor. There are a few different bad odors that could come from your air conditioner that are concerning.

The first is a musty or damp odor that can point to a mold infestation. The next is a burning smell that can indicate something inside of your air conditioner is overheating or burning up. A dusty and dirty odor can mean that you were ductwork needs to be cleaned, which is a service that we recommend scheduling every three to five years for the best results.
